Randy's initial meeting with personal trainer Courtney
June 16, 2014
My first impression from Randy was probably one of the best that I’ve ever had from a client. He wasn’t your average retiree; Randy knew what had to be done and was focused on taking the first steps. This wasn’t his first fitness rodeo though; Randy used to be a high school Phys. Ed coach.
About 4 years ago, one of his sons was diagnosed with testicular cancer and he stuck with his son on the road to recovery. They trained together twice a day for over 3 months. Randy was at a high point back then, and knew that he needed to get back there, for his overall health and fitness.
Meeting with Randy, we discussed a lot of issues from family health history, to current lifestyle and upcoming goals. He was realistic with his goals and was committed to reaching them. With past and present family health issues, Randy didn’t want to fall victim to any unexpected sicknesses. He had to do this not only for himself, but for his entire family as well.
Randy’s current lifestyle entails some stress, so lowering stress levels would be benificial. Higher stress lifestyles are a cause for heightened cortisol levels, which in turn result in fat storing around the midsection; common in men. This was an area that Randy wanted to target. Flexibility was another issue that Randy wanted to focus on; to be able to prevent future joint immobility was definitely a priority.
At the end of our consultation, I was able to get a good idea of Randy’s current lifestyle and goals, and immediately went back to my office to work on the project at hand. I knew that my biggest job was to make sure he stays accountable with his progress and results.
Motivation, check-ins, follow ups and one-on-one sessions are just a few ways that I will be helping Randy become healthier for years to come. I know that with my training background and Sam’s knowledge in proper nutrition, we will be able to help Randy get well on his way to success!
